When forming a team consisting of individuals whose backgrounds we do not know, the first step is to introduce ourselves. Self-introduction as a form of communication becomes the initial gateway to building a quality team. However, being active in communication only at the beginning does not guarantee that the team will endure when problems arise in the future. Therefore, one key element is needed to strengthen the team for long-term collaboration: interactive communication.
Interactive communication is a type of communication that occurs between two or more individuals, where everyone alternates as a communicator and a recipient. This means that everyone is given the opportunity to express their opinions, ensuring no one feels excluded. Once all members of the team can establish interactive communication, subsequent tasks such as management, administration, finance, and others become easier. Moreover, the most crucial aspect of interactive communication is its ability to resolve disputes or issues within the team promptly, while facilitating evaluations, as every member can be engaged in constructive dialogue.
Interactive communication also fosters awareness and trust within the team when problems arise or when future goals are to be achieved. This can be applied when an issue occurs by having the leader first inquire about its cause. Once the cause is identified, the focus should shift to finding solutions to address the issue rather than merely blaming the situation. Leaders can also encourage those responsible for mistakes to take accountability for their actions. Here, solution-seeking becomes a collective effort, emphasizing communication and minimizing losses. Thus, the leader's primary duty is to unite the team effectively.
Rhenald Kasali, in his book Change, states that as leaders, we must be able to inspire our members to move forward together in facing uncertain changes in the future. Therefore, interactive communication represents the sustainability of efforts, aiming to create a team environment that can work collaboratively over the long term and overcome various challenges that may arise.
